Interrail May 2026

Ciao,

This post will cover photos taken during a recent 2-week Interrailing trip Emily and I took at the end of May. I shot 3 rolls of Kodak Gold on my Canon EOS 500N during the trip.

We started off in Bologna, where Emily was attending a conference for the week. Meanwhile, I was working from the hotel in the mornings, and going out to shoot in the afternoon each day. Well, except from the Monday, which was a bank holiday, when I went to nearby Ferrara for the day. Ferrara was really nice, though I did feel it was quite similar to Bologna, but less exciting. Bologna, in general, was lovely - beautiful, great food, good evening vibes. It was just great!

Upon arrival in Bologna, I realised that I had taken the batteries out of my camera at some point, for some reason… So I lost a couple of days of potential photos before managing to buy some new ones on the Monday. Anyway, I think I got some good shots in Bologna (and Ferrara), though I am left ruminating on one shot I missed because I was thinking about directions to a restaurant and then the moment passed. It would have been a good one, I promise.

I have ordered the photos here so it starts with Ferrara, up to the silhouette-of-man-sitting-on-bike photos, thereafter it’s Bologna.

Next up, we went to Venice. We stayed on the nearby island of Murano, which was really nice and calm in the evenings, as most tourists would visit during the day and return to Venice in the evening. This was really nice, it was amazing being able to walk around somewhere so beautiful with much less of the crowds.

While I get that Venice is a bit of an odd place to visit, due to the sheer number of tourists (obviously, I was one of those tourists, so I am not blameless there), it is just breathtakingly beautiful. And very photogenic - I’m really happy with the collection of photos I managed to take there.

After Venice, we got the train up through the Alps towards Innsbruck, which was a magnificent train ride.

Innsbruck was fun as a change of pace, as we spent more time in the outdoors, with a nice hike up to get some food in at Hottinger Alm. Unfortunately, it turned out that Hottinger Alm was cash-only. And we didn’t have any cash… But we managed to get some food at one of the other Alm-places in the end. We also had a nice pub crawl with one of Emily’s friends. However, you will notice a distinct lack of photos of the city itself. Honestly, I just didn’t find it at all photogenic. It was cute, certainly, but didn’t lend itself at all to my photographic tastes.

Finally, after a sleeper train, we arrived in Amsterdam. We visited the Van Gogh museum, a brewery in an old windmill, and walked along the canals. I was most drawn, though, to the vast array of stylish doors in Amsterdam. The narrow roads meant it was quite hard to get a good framing of these doors, but anyway that’s what I took photos of.

I wasn’t massive on any of these photos, but some of them are nice enough.

Righto, so here are my favourite photos from the trip. Special shout out to the “Neverland” one.

Hope you enjoyed looking through these! Let me know if you have any favourites. You can comment below if you like.

Ciao!
